Saturday, July 14

"Based on a book by Studs Terkel and featuring interviews with American workers, Working sheds new light on people who are so often taken for granted, i.e. valet, newsboy, schoolteacher, waitress, housewife, checkout girl, and so on,” explains Sheena Graham-Owens, Director and Harding Performing Arts teacher. “Working will make you laugh, and possibly cry, but it will definitely leave you with new insight and inspiration!"
The performance is the culmination of a camp that Harding and Masuk students attend from July 2 to 14. Students have two weeks to create the production, which includes memorizing lines, choreographing, staging, and designing the set. “It is intense for those students and staff involved, but very rewarding as well,” Graham-Owens said.
This production is made possible through a two-year interdistrict grant. To reserve seating for transportation to Masuk, please call: (203) 452-5823, ext. 3110.
Bridgeport to Host Summer Equestrian Camp

Horses: Trails to Learning, a free equestrian summer camp sponsored by Bridgeport Public Schools and Amity Region #5, will be held July 16-27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This interdistrict camp is available to students in Bridgeport and Amity Region #5 who are entering grades six through nine.
This science based camp is for beginner level riders and will be held at a breeding farm in Woodbridge. Daily transportation to and from the farm will be provided from Thomas Hooker School. Students will receive basic riding instruction and gain horse management skills as they learn to groom, tack and lead horses. Also, students will see an ultrasound of a pregnant mare and meet a newborn foal, among a variety of other activities and field trips.
“I think this is one of the best opportunities ever offered to Bridgeport students. Horses are amazing animals! The focus, respect, determination, physical demands, and love they bring to our lives are truly outstanding,” said Program Director Christine Patella. “I know students will remember this camp for many years to come. They will develop friendships that can only happen through this kind of experience.”
In addition to the hands-on experience, students will read stories, research articles, and create a power point presentation describing the history of horses and their personal experiences at this camp. Guest speakers will also help students explore careers within the horse industry.
Camp registration is still underway. For application forms or further information, contact Christine Patella through Thomas Hooker School at (203) 576-7185, or email
