DonorsChoose Funding Fever Sweeps
Bridgeport Public Schools

After just one month Bridgeport Public Schools have received a total of 37 fully funded proposals from DonorChoose.org, amounting in $11,452 in funding.
Teachers are finding this website to be an effective avenue for receiving the materials needed to Expect Great Things in the classroom. “DonorsChoose is an incredible opportunity for us to not only get what we could only wish for, but to also witness first-hand the generosity of strangers,” said Beardsley School teacher Dawn Shirizzo. “The website was self-explanatory and really did make my students' dreams come true!” McKinley School teacher Theresa Welch agrees. “I found that using DonorsChoose has been a great way to get funding for projects for my classroom. The website and program do take a while to get comfortable working with, but it is well worth the time invested," she said.
Teachers such as Central High School’s John Nilan have already experienced positive results from the funding. DonorsChoose recently funded his proposal for laptops for his Advanced Placement computer science students. “I think the DonorsChoose program is a great way for classroom teachers to get extra materials that will help make us more effective in the classroom,” he said. “I have already seen the difference the laptop I acquired has made in the programming skills of one of my students, who did not have a computer at home. Thanks to the DonorsChoose program, I feel confident that this student will be prepared for the Advanced Placement Test in Computer Science, which he will take in May.”
