The Bridgeport community is invited to review the Bridgeport Public Schools’ Boundary Adjustment (Redistricting) Plan at a Special Board of Education meeting today, Mon., Feb. 11 at Aquaculture School beginning at 7 p.m. To allow for community input there are two Board of Education Public Hearings scheduled. The first Public Hearing will be held on Tues., Feb. 12th at Cesar Batalla School at which the plan for the West part of the city will be presented and the second Public Hearing will be held on Wed., Feb. 13 at 6pm at Luis Munoz Marin School at which the plan for the East part of the city will be presented. The snow dates for these Public Hearings are Thurs., Feb. 14 and Fri., Feb. 15 respectively.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. John J. Ramos recently announced this plan at a Special Board of Education meeting on January 28. The plan is a continuation of the district Facility Master Plan which the Board of Education adopted in 2003.
The Master Plan contained a comprehensive overview and long term plan that reviewed existing facility conditions, established educational and demographic needs, and recommended a plan of action to create school buildings that will remain viable for the next 30-50 years. The Master Plan included the following objectives: (1) to keep school size for Pre-K to grade 8 schools between 500 and 1,000 students, (2) create neighborhood schools to the greatest extent possible in which students could walk to school and (3) begin new construction of Pre-K to 8 schools.
District boundary options have been developed in conjunction with the educational consulting firm of DeJong, which is the same company that developed the Facility Master Plan. The options were reviewed by a staff committee who created and presented a final boundary recommendation to the Board.
In addition to the Special Board of Education meeting and Public Hearings, a presentation will be held at the District Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meeting on Wed., Feb. 13 at 9:30 a.m. at Classical Studies Academy. The Redistricting Plan is also available on the district’s website,
