Board of Education Appoints Director of CommunicationsVeronica Douglas (Givan) of WTNH – News Channel 8 was recently appointed Director of Communications for the Bridgeport Public Schools. In this role, she will develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive communications program while serving as the information liaison between the school district and its supporting community. Douglas’ position will begin in February.
“I am proud to have Veronica as a key member of my executive staff,” Superintendent Dr. John J. Ramos said. “Her knowledge and passion for children, education, and issues affecting communities throughout the state will be an asset to the Board of Education as well as the city at large.”
Douglas looks forward to the position as well. “I am excited about this new beginning and the opportunity to focus my efforts on education and children throughout the greater Bridgeport community. There are so many stories to be told, and I will champion those efforts while taking Bridgeport's ‘Expect Great Things' mindset to a whole new level,” she said.
For the past 15 years, Douglas has worked at the ABC-affiliate WTNH – News Channel 8, where she currently serves as Director of Special Projects. One such project includes hosting the segment “Wednesday’s Child,” a weekly report giving a “voice” to the children living in state care who are waiting to be adopted.
The New Haven native’s career in television started at the national syndicated talk show, “Sally Jessy Raphael.” She was also on on-air personality at WYBC 94.3 FM, which is the Yale Broadcasting radio station in New Haven.
Douglas received a B.S. in Mass Communication from Northeastern University and an M.S. in Journalism from Quinnipiac University, where she received a full-fellowship and graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2006. She is actively involved in the greater New Haven community. Her efforts include supporting youth programs, homeless women and children, the HIV and Aids community, race relations, and many grass root causes.
The Board of Education welcomes Veronica Douglas to the Bridgeport Public Schools community!
